The Story of Joe’s Deck:
Joe Lind wanted to get his back deck replaced in the fall. Solid planning, a vision of what he wanted, and the discipline to save all came together…right up until the material actually started arriving!
What happened?
First, someone ordered the wrong materials. Not ideal, but it happens. But it took WAY too long for the right decking to arrive. Then it did arrive…and was unceremoniously DROPPED on Joe’s driveway, not only damaging the decking materials but also tearing up Joe’s lawn. The right materials did finally arrive intact but had to be installed on a cold, rainy day which leads to concern about installation quality.
We all have been there. So have many contractors and installers. The moral of the story isn’t about the mistakes. The takeaway from this is (other than Joe’s elevated blood pressure) is that simple acts of communication could have solved all of it. Both in preventing the errors and in properly managing Joe’s experience.
