Ah, the dog days of summer. That magical stretch where time slows down, your lawn turns to straw, and the Cincinnati Reds… well, they’re grinding it out, just trying to stay in the wildcard conversation.
It’s a lot like investing.
Most of the time, it’s not thrilling. You’re not hitting financial home runs every week. There’s no walk off home run, no championship parade. You’re just showing up, staying the course, and watching your accounts (hopefully) grow. Slowly. Quietly. Maybe even a little boring.
And that’s exactly where the magic happens.
See, the hard part of investing isn’t buying during the excitement or adjusting your plan after a big life event like a new job, a move, or retirement. The hard part is what comes between. The long, uneventful innings where nothing much changes — except your patience.
Just like the Reds in August, you’re not going to see fireworks every day. Some games you win, some you lose, and some… you just slog through with a warm beer and a stale pretzel. But you show up. You trust the plan. You don’t trade away your ace pitcher (or your retirement strategy) just because you hit a slump.
If you’re feeling antsy in the quiet season, here’s your cue to do a little midseason check-in:
- Are your investments still aligned with your goals?
- Has anything big changed in your life that your advisor should know?
- Have you reviewed your game plan lately?
Don’t let boredom tempt you into unnecessary changes. Investing, like baseball, is a long game.
Stay patient. Keep your eye on the ball. And root for the Reds… they are in the playoff hunt!
