If you’ve ever spent August on a scorched practice field doing two-a-days, you know it’s no picnic. And if you know Cincinnati football, you know Elder High School doesn’t take preparation lightly. Whether you’re a senior gearing up for one last season under the lights at The Pit, or a freshman just trying to figure out where the locker room is, those first few weeks of practice are all about getting in shape, learning the system, and building something bigger than yourself.
Sound familiar? Investing’s not all that different.
Some folks come into our office in their “senior year” — maybe they’re in their 50s or 60s, looking to make the most of what they’ve built and finish strong. Others are the “freshmen” — just getting started, nervous, full of questions, and maybe trying to pretend they know more than they do.
But here’s the truth: both the senior and the freshman need a plan. And both can benefit from a little sweat and structure.
Two-a-days teach discipline, endurance, and the importance of showing up — even when it’s hard. Investing does too. There are hot days, cold streaks, missed blocks, and big wins. The only way through it is consistency, teamwork, and trusting the process.
At Elder, the tradition is strong because players buy into something bigger than themselves. Same goes for investing. It’s not just about chasing the next hot stock — it’s about playing the long game, protecting your downside, and sticking to a plan built for your goals.
So whether you’re closing in on retirement or just opening your first IRA, take a lesson from the guys in purple and white this August:
Work hard. Stick together. And don’t forget your water!
