January is a funny month. It\u2019s the only time of year we voluntarily look backward\u00a0and<\/em>\u00a0forward at the same time. We pull out calendars, make big declarations, and pretend kale smoothies can fix everything. So while you\u2019re in this moment of clarity, here\u2019s a question worth asking:\u00a0Is it time to find a new financial advisor?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Now, don\u2019t worry\u2014this isn\u2019t the relationship equivalent of \u201cWe need to talk.\u201d It\u2019s more like checking the expiration date on the milk. You don\u2019t expect a problem, but you still look\u2026 just in case.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s how you know it might be time to explore other options:<\/p>\n

  1. You only hear from them when it\u2019s time to sign something.<\/strong>
    \nIf your advisor goes silent for 11 months and then suddenly reappears with documents\u2014congrats, you don\u2019t have an advisor. You have a subscription service.<\/li>\n
  2. They talk over you, not with you.<\/strong>
    \nIf you leave every meeting feeling like you just took a college midterm on bonds, that\u2019s not a partnership\u2014that\u2019s performance art.<\/li>\n
  3. Your life changed, but your plan didn\u2019t.<\/strong>
    \nNew job? New grandkids? New dreams? If your advisor hasn\u2019t recalibrated your plan around real-life updates, that\u2019s a red flag.<\/li>\n
  4. Your gut says something\u2019s off.<\/strong>
    \nThis is underrated.<\/em> Some advisors are technically competent but practically disconnected. If you don\u2019t feel understood, valued, or comfortable\u2014listen to that.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The point isn\u2019t to dump someone. It\u2019s simply to get honest. You deserve an advisor who shows up, listens well, plans proactively, and treats you like a human, not an account number.<\/p>\n
